Overnight oats are a fun and easy way to have breakfast ready in the morning. Our kids love them and I think you will too! Sometimes I need to have a quick breakfast ready because if we need to be somewhere early in the morning it’s nice if I don’t have to wake up an hour before everyone else just to cook breakfast. So, the night before we sit at the table and assemble our oats.
First, we gather the ingredients:
- Old-fashioned rolled oats (not instant)
- Honey, maple syrup, or fruit preserves
- Fruit, chopped nuts, raisins, or any toppings you prefer, we try to be creative
- Jars with lids to place ingredients in
We each sit at the table with our jar ready to fill. First we pass the oats and place 1/2 cup in each jar.
Next, we pour 1/2 cup milk on top of the oats in the jar.
Then, we each put 2-3 spoonfuls of yogurt on top of the oats and milk.
Next, we squirt some local honey in for some sweetness.
Finally, we each put the toppings of our choice on top. I put chia seeds, blueberries, and raspberries. Other combinations are cocoa, peanut butter, & bananas; peanut butter, bananas, & raspberries; coconut, chia seeds, & raspberries. The possibilities are limitless. You could use raisins, maple syrup, flax seeds, wheat germ. chopped nuts, any fruit, cinnamon, apple sauce, etc.
We place lids on our jars and label them with our names. Then we put them in the refrigerator to sit overnight. In the morning all we have to do is take our jar out of the refrigerator, grab a spoon, and start eating.
